Big week. There's a major new employer headed to town, the summer's best downtown party is Saturday, and because it's late July, a heat advisory is basically the wallpaper of our lives right now. Grab your iced coffee and let's get into it.
The Big Thing: Amazon is building a $48 million warehouse in Georgetown
It's official-ish: Amazon has filed plans for a 248,687-square-foot sorting warehouse in Georgetown, a roughly $48 million project that would bring hundreds of jobs to town.
The details, from the state filing: it's going at 104 Wittera Way, in the Gateway35 industrial park near I-35 and the 130 toll road, on the northeast side. It's what Amazon calls a "Sub Same Day" facility — meaning it's built to get packages to nearby customers in under a day with robotic sorting, cold storage, and the rest. Construction is expected to start around August 24 and wrap by July 2027. It would be Amazon's fourth warehouse in the Austin area, joining two in Round Rock and one in Pflugerville.
What it means for us: more jobs and faster deliveries, but also more truck traffic and another big industrial neighbor on that side of town. Whether that's a win or a worry probably depends on which end of Georgetown you live on and we'll be watching how the city handles the roads around it. Either way, "third-fastest-growing county in the country" keeps proving itself.

Sat 8/1 · Blazin' Beer Crawl — Downtown Georgetown, 1–4 p.m. The 7th annual self-paced craft-beer crawl through downtown shops and restaurants, with event-day food specials. $30 general ($70 VIP, noon early entry). 21+, check-in at the 505 S. Austin Ave. parking garage. Proceeds support the Main Street façade grant program. (Told you it was coming in early August.)
Sat 8/1 · Zeppelin, Beatles & Beyond: Concert in the Dark — Grace Heritage Center, 3 p.m. A candlelit tribute concert downtown.
Now–Aug 30 · "42nd Street" at the Palace — Doug Smith Performance Center. The Broadway classic; showtimes vary.

If you've been to the Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, you may already know Crisp & Chew the oatmeal-cookie specialists who just turned their farmers market following into a brick-and-mortar shop at 1612 Williams Dr. Crispy edges, chewy centers, flavors that rotate well past plain oatmeal (people rave about the Chocolate Pecan Toffee).
It's the kind of small, local, family-run spot that's easy to root for more on the people behind it below.
Local Spotlight: The couple behind Crisp & Chew
Sweet story behind that cookie shop. Crisp & Chew is owned by Georgetown residents Sarah Davis and Qudduws Ware, together since 1997 and married in 2010. As the Williamson County Sun told it, her thing was chocolate chip, his thing was oatmeal and his love of the oatmeal cookie sent the two of them on a years-long quest for the perfect one. Sarah rediscovered baking in 2019, started handing samples to friends and family, and the response was strong enough that they launched the business in 2024. The staff is made up of friends and family, and they wear the "family-owned" label with pride. This summer, they cut the ribbon on their first storefront.
That's about as Georgetown a story as it gets: a couple chasing a small, specific dream and the community showing up for it.

Downtown gets a new boutique: Urban Cottage Boutique is relocating to downtown Georgetown — another sign the Square keeps pulling in retail.
Pickleball, obviously: PickleTex opened 9 new courts between Georgetown and Liberty Hill. The sport's takeover of Central Texas continues.
Utility-bill watch: the water and wastewater rate increases council gave first-round approval to earlier this month still need a second vote before they'd take effect October 1. Not final yet.
In the pipeline: recent state filings point to new jiu-jitsu studios, a new hair salon, and downtown sidewalk improvements on the way, per the Williamson County Sun.
Reminder: the annual chlorine rinse starts this Monday, Aug. 3, running through Sept. 3. Expect a possible chlorine smell or brief tint; it's within safe drinking standards. Fish-tank owners and dialysis patients, take your usual precautions.
A Little Good News
A year on from the 2025 Central Texas floods, the tally of what this region gave is genuinely staggering: local efforts generated $9.4 million in donations for flood relief. Proof that when Central Texas shows up for its neighbors, it really shows up.
