It is the calm before a very big couple of weeks. This week itself is quiet, but the week of the 18th is stacked: a huge new food and entertainment complex opens, and school starts the very next morning. Consider this your heads up to enjoy the last slow days of summer while they last. Let's get into it.
The Big Thing: The Junction opens August 18
Georgetown's biggest bet on dining and nightlife in years is nearly here. The Junction, a roughly 60,000 square foot food and entertainment complex at 210 Blue Springs Blvd. in southeast Georgetown, opens the week of Tuesday, August 18.
Here is what is going in: a food hall, more than 8,700 square feet of patios and decks, three lighted pickleball courts, private cabanas, three full bars, a live music stage with a 20 foot outdoor screen, and a speakeasy called The Nest. The opening restaurant lineup mixes Georgetown originals with regional newcomers, including Sweet Lemon Kitchen, Dough-Go Pizza, King's Chicken Wings, Taconmaye, JABS Smashburger, and Shawarma Point.
Why it matters beyond the food: the site sits in a fast growing corridor with thousands of daytime workers and, until now, almost nowhere to eat. Every restaurant space leased before construction even finished, which is rare for a project this size. For the southeast side of town, this is the first real gathering spot of its kind, and for the rest of us, it is a reason to skip the drive to Round Rock on a Saturday night.
The Week Ahead
Sat 8/8 · Second Saturday Market Days on the Square, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The open air market around the courthouse: arts and crafts, food, live music, and a good excuse to visit the shops.
Mon 8/10 · Kittens in the Library at the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kittens from the Georgetown Animal Shelter, available to adopt for $35.
Now through 8/30 · "42nd Street" at the Palace (Doug Smith Performance Center). The Broadway classic; showtimes vary.
Looking ahead: The Junction opens Tue 8/18, and Georgetown ISD's first day of school is Wed 8/19. Big week.

Eat & Drink: A downtown ramen bar worth knowing
While you wait on The Junction, here is a downtown gem some folks still haven't found: Haji Moto Ramen & Sake Bar at 114 E. Seventh St., just off the Square. Chef partner Jerry Thompson is running a menu built around traditional style ramen, with broths, house made noodles, gyoza, and karaage (the fried chicken is done twice in beef tallow, which tells you what kind of kitchen this is). The bar leans into Japanese whisky, sake, and Japanese beer on tap.
It is exactly the kind of independent, chef driven spot that used to mean a drive to Austin. Not anymore.
Local Spotlight: A resale shop for the youth sports crowd
Perfect timing with fall sports and school gearing up: Georgetown, TX resident Kimri Crawford is preparing to open The Second String Sports Consignment, a resale shop for youth sports gear. If you have ever bought cleats in August and watched a kid outgrow them by October, you already understand why this is a genuinely useful idea, and a very Georgetown one: keep good gear in circulation, keep it affordable, and keep it local.

Back to school, mark it down: Georgetown ISD's first day is Wednesday, Aug. 19. Heads up that bell times changed this year: elementary now starts earlier at 7:30 a.m., high schoolers run 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m., and middle schoolers 9:10 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. Double check your child's new schedule before day one.
Two new schools pushed to 2027: citing slower than expected enrollment, GISD delayed opening Jessie Daniel Ames Elementary (Elementary No. 12) and Middle School No. 5 until next year.
School zones are back: once classes resume the week of the 19th, school zone speed limits and bus traffic return. Budget a few extra minutes on the morning commute.
Downtown churn: Sanctuary Holistic Kitchen has moved its retail into Lark & Owl Booksellers and is working through permits to take over the former Alouette Bistro space.
Reminder: the chlorine rinse runs through Sept. 3. Possible smell or brief tint; still within safe drinking standards. Fish tank owners and dialysis patients, take your usual precautions.
A Little Good News
Ahead of the new school year, Georgetown ISD is offering free after school meals at select elementary campuses, making sure more kids get fed after the last bell. It is the kind of quiet, practical good that does not make headlines but makes a real difference for a lot of local families.
