The Open

Morning, Georgetown. 👋

You are getting this on a Thursday, a day later than usual, and honestly the timing worked out. Brooks & Dunn and Ella Langley were just announced as the Two Step Inn headliners, and Georgetown residents have a presale all to themselves that closes tomorrow, Friday, at 10 a.m. Everything you need is below. Also this week: pocket change that turned into $5,600, fireworks at the pumpkin patch, and a 61 to 7 homecoming. Let's go.

A Little Good News

This summer, the kids at Crestview Baptist Church's two week summer camp decided to help out a local foster care house. Their plan: bring their pocket change every day and use it to buy Crocs for the children who come through the house's doors.

By the end of camp, the kids had raised more than $5,600. In pocket change. That is a lot of Crocs, and a lot of kids who walk into a hard day with new shoes on their feet.

The house they were helping just turned one, and its first year is one of the best stories in town. More on it in the Local Spotlight below.

The Week Ahead

  • Now through Fri 9/25 at 10 a.m. · Two Step Inn 2027 Georgetown presale. Locals only. Full details in The Big Thing below. Do not sleep on this one.

  • Fri 9/25 · Trucks & Tunes, Light & Waterworks District, 809 Martin Luther King St., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last one of September: a food truck, a local musician, and a free raffle for a $50 gift card.

  • Sat 9/26 · Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, 1015 W. University Ave., 8:30 a.m.

  • Now through Nov. 8 · Fall Festival at Sweet Eats Adventure Farm, 14400 E. State Hwy 29. The 4.5 acre corn maze, a pumpkin patch with 40-plus varieties, pig races, apple cannons, and, starting in October, fireworks every Friday and Saturday night (except Halloween). The first fireworks weekend is Oct. 2 and 3.

  • Fri 10/2 · First Friday on the Square. Free live music on the courthouse lawn and the First Friday ghost tours around downtown. Bring a chair.

Eat and Drink: One goodbye, one hello

The goodbye. The Frozen Flamingo told us back in July that this summer would likely be its last, with a September close planned and the business up for sale. September ends next week. If frozen custard on a hot evening has been part of your family's summer, this weekend is the one to go.

The hello. Texas Roadhouse has been building its first Georgetown location at 2209 North I-35, with a late September target. If you have been driving to Round Rock for rolls and cinnamon butter, the drive is about to get much shorter.

The Big Thing: Brooks & Dunn and Ella Langley are coming to Georgetown, and you get first crack at tickets

The lineup for Two Step Inn 2027 dropped this week, and it is a big one. Brooks & Dunn headline Saturday, April 17, and Ella Langley headlines Sunday, April 18, both at San Gabriel Park. Also on the bill: Parker McCollum, Sheryl Crow, Whiskey Myers, Flatland Cavalry, Tracy Lawrence, Clint Black, Jo Dee Messina, Josh Abbott Band, and more, roughly 30 acts across three stages.

If Brooks & Dunn sound familiar, that is because they were supposed to play this year. The storm that washed out the second half of Saturday at the 2026 festival took their set with it, and the festival refunded the whole day. So 2027 is their redemption tour, and it happens in our park.

The locals-only presale, which closes tomorrow:

  • Enter a Georgetown ZIP code as the passcode: 78626, 78627, 78628, or 78633

  • You need a Georgetown shipping address at checkout, or the order can be canceled

  • Limit six tickets per purchase

  • One-day tickets start around $179 and two-day around $289, the lowest prices the festival offers

If you miss it: the general public presale opens Friday at noon, and the cheapest two-day general admission tickets are only guaranteed for that first hour. After that, prices climb.

Why it is good for Georgetown even if you never set foot in the park: the festival donated $630,000 to Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation from this year's event alone, and more than $3.1 million since it started in 2023. Every Two Step weekend is quietly paying for parks the rest of us use all year.

Local Spotlight: Isaiah 117 House, one year in

Here is the house those Crestview kids were buying Crocs for.

When a child in Williamson County is removed from their home, there is often a gap of hours between leaving and being placed with a foster family. Historically, a lot of kids spent that time in a caseworker's office. Isaiah 117 House of Williamson County exists so they spend it in a real home instead, with a warm meal, clean clothes, a bed, and adults whose only job is to be kind to them.

The house opened Sept. 6, 2025, and in its first year it has served 232 children entering foster care, plus another 119 who were given supplies on their way to placement. That is almost one child a day. Location leader Tara Thornton says the house has never gone a single day short of something it needed, because the community keeps showing up with food, clothes, money, and volunteer hours, often late at night.

The story that stuck with us: one girl, on what had to be one of the worst weekends of her life, set the table like a formal family dinner and asked to cook the meal for the caseworkers and volunteers. Thornton described the goal of the house as feeling like grandma's, somewhere you know someone will just sit and listen.

The Roundup

  • Homecoming blowout: the Georgetown Eagles beat their opponent 61 to 7 on homecoming night. A good bounce back after that five touchdown loss to Leander Rouse.

  • Sun City road district update: after a Sept. 15 town hall where Sun City residents pushed back on the Somerset Hills road district tax, Commissioner Valerie Covey proposed reducing the district's debt cap. Residents being heard, in real time.

  • Library upgrades: the Georgetown Public Library is continuing its upgrades following last month's weeklong closure.

  • Voting calendar, quick version: Nov. 3 is Election Day. The last day to register is Monday, Oct. 5, and early voting runs Oct. 19 to 30.

Your Turn

Last week I asked how you felt about a nuclear reactor manufacturer moving into town, and the replies ranged from "this is awesome" to "I would like a lot more information, please." Both fair. I am collecting your questions.

This week, the fun one: Brooks & Dunn or Ella Langley? And if you are going, which day? Hit reply. Bonus points for your best Two Step Inn story from years past.
